About the University
Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture & Technology, Kanpur came into existence in 1975, a premier Agriculture Institution of the nation serving since 1893. It has glorious past and has been able to maintain meritorious records of research, teaching and extension education since its inception. The University has huge catchment area, spread over in 22 districts of Uttar Pradesh which covers two agro-climatic zones of UP (South Western Semi-Arid & Central Plain).
The National Agricultural Education Accreditation Board of ICAR has also granted accreditation to this University along with College of Agriculture, Kanpur for a period of five years.
The University has a strong research base comprises of four Research Sections. Rabi Cereals Section takes care for Wheat & Barley researches, Oilseeds Research Section for Rape Seed & Mustard, Linseed, Sesame & Groundnut researches, Legumes Research Section Field pea, chickpea, lentil, urd & moongbean and Vegetables Research Section is mandated for cole crop, tuber crop, tomato, brinjal, cucurbits, potato & spices crop). Five Regional Research Stations have also established for strengthening the regional researches besides four crop units for care of Sorghum, Tobbaco, Rice & Cotton research. Fourteen Research Farms are mandated and equipped to undertake the location specific, problem solving and production oriented multi disciplinary researches and to develop technology suited for different agro-climatic regions. Besides, Centre for Advances Agricultural Science & Technology on Nutritional Crops for capacity building of students & faculty and two Centres of Excellence for Wheat & Vegetables crops are also in operation development of improved cultivars & their matching technologies.
University has developed more than 290 cultivars with their matching agro-technologies. Deva & Ujjyar varieties of wheat & Malika variety of lentil are international known cultivars. University developed watershed management technology for ravines & hillocks, is five times awarded by National Productivity award. Summer groundnut production technology is gaining very high importance covering more than 3.0 lakh ha in Uttar Pradesh.
Quality Seed is a critical and basic input for enhancing agricultural production and productivity in different crops grown under varied agro-climatic regions. Greater emphasis is being laid on production of nucleus, breeder, foundation & certified seeds and maintaining adequate safeguards for quality assurance in the seed multiplication chain.
University has assumed added responsibility of arranging on-farm vocational agro-allied outreach programmes for the extension workers & farmers of area jurisdiction of the University through kishan mela, Gosthies, training programmes, Field days & FLDs. For the purpose, fourteen Krishi Vigyan Kendras have been established with financial support of Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi. University has adopted severely malnutrition affected village Anupur of Kanpur Dehat for conversion into first bio-fortified village for eradication of malnutrition. University organizes various academic events (seminars, webcon, webinars, virtual trainings etc) for enhancing the visibility of the university.
